Village of Greenwich Recycling and Waste Disposal Regulations

Effective June 1, 1993, garbage to be picked up at curbside by the Village of Greenwich must have a VILLAGE waste (yellow) disposal sticker(s) with appropriate value affixed. Village disposal stickers will be available at the Village Clerk's office, Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, except for observed holidays and as otherwise posted. You may also obtain Village Disposal Stickers through the mail with check or money order and a self-addressed stamped envelope. Hannaford also has these stickers for sale, for a small additional fee.

All Recycling Must Be Clean and Dry

The following items will be picked up curbside on a weekly basis:

1] Garbage
Must have Village Disposal stickers with appropriate values.

2] Glass - Green, Clear & Brown
Must be sorted by color in separate containers, clean and dry with all plastic or metal rings removed. Other colors are garbage or may be recycled as tramp glass at transfer station.

3] Tin Cans
Wash, dry and remove labels. Remove one end, flatten if possible. No jar lids, soda or bottle tops (garbage). No Aluminum - see 3A must be separate.

4] Plastic
HDPE 2 (clear and colored), PET 1, must be drained or washed dry and separated in container by number. All other plastic is now garbage, including lids and covers. Plastic bags are garbage.

5] Newspapers
Remove inserts and comics, must be dry, clean and tied or bagged.

6] Deposit Containers
Must be empty

7] Cardboard
Must be clean and tied, no larger than 4' x 4', includes paper bags.

8] Boxboard
(Cereal, pasta boxes, etc) Flatten, must be clean, dry and bagged or tied. Remove cellophane windows. No pizza boxes or beverage containers (garbage).
Any corrugated material is considered cardboard.

9] Magazines & Catalogs
Must be clean and dry, tied or bagged.

10] Colored Inserts (including comics) from newspapers
Must be clean and dry, tied or bagged. Separate from magazines and catalogs.
No Envelopes or ledger paper.

The following items will be picked up curbside twice monthly on the first and third garbage days of each month

1] Yard Waste
If bagged, leave top of bag open. No sticker required.

2] Office Paper
Must be clean and dry, white paper and color paper placed in separate containers. No envelopes

3] Ashes
Place in container. Must be cool.

The following items will be picked up Once A Year (Spring Clean Up Week)

1] Tires
Must have appropriate Yellow disposal stickers

2] White Goods
Must have appropriate Yellow disposal stickers

3] Furniture
Must have appropriate Yellow disposal stickers

4] Scrap Metal - Ferrous
No longer than 5' in length, will stick to magnet

5] Scrap Metal - Non-ferrous
Aluminum, copper, brass, etc; will not stick to magnet. Place in container.

6] Hard cover books
Must be dry and in a container

Garbage will not be picked up without Village Disposal Stickers Attached
Fee Schedule

Items requiring Village stickers: Garbage
15 gallon bag - $1.75 One sticker or as announced
30 gallon bag - $3.50 Two stickers or as announced
45 gallon bag - $5.25 Three stickers or as announced

Recyclables are picked up at no charge.
Place at curbside in plastic container, paper bag or tie in bundles.
