The Adirondack School, established on 15 acres along the Hudson River on the old Schuyler Prep property, provides a unique learning environment for students in grades 7 through 12. The "standards" of the school are determined by its purpose to prepare all students to be accepted by the college of their choice, and to be ready to handle the work at that college.
All students are enrolled in appropriate math, science, and social studies courses to meet this purpose, together with "blocks" in other areas such as art history, computer science, finance and other subjects to enrich them intellectually and to provide them with essential skills. Very small class sizes and an able faculty ready to offer extensive help, contribute much to the effectiveness of the learning environment.
A major component of an Adirondack School education is its emphasis on the arts. All students are involved in visual art programs: painting, sculpture, jewelry making, metal design, etc; music education including theory and performance, and a movement program. Studies indicate that the broadening effects of such programs greatly enhance a student's readiness to achieve success in college. Although the school does not have a formal athletic program, all students are involved in physical education activities which focus on fun, health and physical development.
Visitors are always welcome.
